What Height Should Your Desk Be?

The right desk height puts your elbows at 90 degrees and the top of your screen at eye level. This calculator turns your body height into exact seated, standing, and monitor numbers using standard anthropometric proportions.

How the math works

The elbow rule: desk surface at seated or standing elbow height with shoulders relaxed. Standing elbow height tracks body height almost linearly (about 0.444 x height + 12.8 in); seated desk height follows 0.333 x height + 2.83 in over a properly adjusted chair. The monitor rule: top of screen at or slightly below eye level, roughly 0.65 x height minus 2.5 in from the floor when seated, an arm's length away. Fixed-height 29-inch desks fit almost nobody under 5'10", which is why risers and converters exist. The full setup guide covers chair height, keyboard, and the rest of the chain, and the monitor guide handles dual screens and laptop stands.
